Clive (just Clive)

Here we presented a classic play (although arguably, it could also be classified as a comedy) by one of the giants of contemporary theatre, Alan Ayckbourn. The play was set at Christmas time so, of course, we put it on at Easter! It includes some of the funniest characters available, including the proud but inept Bernard (Martin McLachlan) and gung-ho Harvey (Tony Murphy), whose verbal assault on Bernard’s puppet show is priceless.

My character is meant to be the potential love-interest for aspiring writer Rachel (Karen McCarthy), but she’s been having second thoughts, and when I arrive to spend Christmas, the hostess Belinda (Rachel Collier), is immediately drawn to me, and after my initial hesitation, I am ready to reciprocate. Unfortunately, a midnight tryst under the Christmas tree goes horribly wrong.....
