Dr Andrew Thorne

This is an excellent thriller (aka suspense play) by Norman Robbins, and in it, I play a GP looking after an elderly patient who is dying, Marion Bishop (Joan Shorrock), a writer of romantic novels. As usual, there are several plot strands woven together, one of which concerns the relationship between my character and an agency nurse, Laura Vinnecombe (Angela Guiver), whose own part in the drama is open to different interpretations. There is also a nephew, whose existence Marion has omitted to reveal, and seems keen on derailing the others’ plans.

My character has to be ambiguous, with regard to Laura, but also towards Marion, from whom it looks very likely that he is to inherit a large amount of money on her death, so it was very useful, working with the director Karen McMcarthy, getting the nuancing of the character right.
