Charlie

This character was a joy to play because, although his appearance is ‘only’ a cameo in this play, that is a sequel to Ladies’ Day, which WADS has also staged, by the same author, Amanda Whittington, what he has to say (and give her, as he makes his departure) profoundly affects at least one other character.

It was a pleasant change to be able to use my appearance to enhance the character, rather than having to disguise it in some way, or hope that it didn’t look incongruous. Also, it was positively liberating to only have a relatively few lines to learn; finally, it was great fun to be able to tap away at a pair of bongo drums while I wasn’t the main focus of the action!
