Professor Crackpot

This pantomime, the last one I acted in for the Apollo Players, was one of the more modern variants of the traditional theme, but one in which the opportunities for silliness are legion, as well as the possibilities for more recent cultural references. My character was the stereotypical white-coated mad professor ‘viz ze tcherman akzent’, but as my hair was somewhat longer by then, I was able to give him a quasi-Doc Brown appearance.

The Players had done a similar pantomime before, this time using a script by David Swan (©1989), and included a classic ‘operation’ scene performed behind a back-projection curtain, enabling all sorts of apparently grisly procedures to take place in complete safety. The relentless rehearsal paid off in the end!
