Dt. Con. Goddard

This play was described as a comedy, but there was also a thriller element to it, as it portrayed what appeared to be a murder, but subsequent events called this into question. As is probably often the case with amateur groups, the senior police officer was played by a real officer, Martin McLachlan, and I played his subordinate, a Detective Constable: I had to placate my irascible superior and try to pull all the confusing strands of evidence together.

The play’s title is a clever play on words, because there are two busybodies: the dead (or not?) body, and the office cleaner, Mrs Piper (Alison Steele, channelling the original actor, Irene Handl), who sees all, knows all, and makes sure she tells all if she possibly can!
